Human Rights in China (HRIC) has led the research field on human rights issues in China for over fifteen years, due in part to the expertise of our staff, but also due to the networks of contacts we maintain inside China to ensure that we have access to the latest and most accurate information.

HRIC's research covers a wide range of advocacy tools, including reports, trends bulletins, briefing papers and short reports on topical issues. HRIC's quarterly journal, China Rights Forum has become the flagship of our outreach to English-speaking media and policy makers.

Our online Chinese-language publications include the monthly journal Ren Yu Ren Quan and the weekly newsletter Huaxia Dianzi Bao. These regular online outlets provide a forum where Chinese democracy, public health and labor activists, scholars, religious and ethnic voices can join in conversation safely.

A selection of HRIC's reports and books are available on this Web site. All of HRIC's publications can be ordered through the Publication List.

HRIC's ongoing publications:
  • China Rights Forum
China Rights Forum (CRF) is HRIC's English-language quarterly journal. Since its founding in 1990, CRF has gained a reputation as an important source of information regarding China's human rights developments. CRF provides space for the voices of Chinese dissidents, scholars, artists, writers and activists promoting democratic reform, labor rights, freedom of expression, and the rights of religious and ethnic minorities and disadvantaged groups.

Current and back issues of the CRF are available on this Web site. For information on receiving copies of the CRF, please print out and mail to HRIC the CRF subscription form.

  • Ren Yu Ren Quan (《人与人权》月刊)
This monthly online journal publishes in-depth analyses, research papers, current events commentaries, theoretical discussions and commentary on China's legal reforms including original writings.

Translated summaries and excerpts of selected issues are available on this Web site. The full Chinese-language issues are made available at http://www.renyurenquan.org by the first of every month.

  • Huaxia Dianzi Bao (《华夏电子报》周刊)
In 2003, HRIC launched the Huaxia Dianzi Bao weekly e-newsletter to deliver uncensored information into China, and established http://www.huaxiabao.org to serve as the e-newsletter's online archive.

Translated summaries of selected issues are available on this Web site. The full Chinese-language issues are made available at http://www.huaxiabao.org every Thursday.

  • Online Publication List
HRIC's research work highlights emerging issues and trends related to the rights of women and children, Internet censorship, control of the media and lack of access to information, labor rights and state secrets, legal reform and social unrest, among others. Additional briefing reports are published in the China Rights Forum.

Regularly issued HRIC briefs:
  • Monthly Brief
The information contained in the HRIC's Monthly Briefs are based on information collected by HRIC. Posted on this Web site each month, they provide a summary of recent issues relating to the death penalty, labor, media censorship, petitions and protests and human rights defenders for the month and should be viewed as a representation of larger trends of dissent and repression in China.

  • Trends Bulletins
HRIC Trends Bulletin are a regular feature that highlight ongoing trends on varying thematic issues.

  • HRIC Daily News Brief
The Daily News Brief is a daily compilation of selected human rights-related news covered in local and regional Chinese and English press. It aims to highlight the latest developments on important human rights issues. Subscribe to the Daily News Brief via Atom XML.
