Denver Schools Superintendent Michael Bennet -- a member of the inaugural class of the Aspen NewSchools Fellows and an active participant in the Aspen Institute Education and Society Program's Urban Superintendents Network -- has been designated by Colorado Governor Bill Ritter as Senator Ken Salazar's replacement. Salazar has been nominated by President-Elect Obama as the next Secretary of the Interior. Bennet spoke about building strong schools at the 2007 Aspen Ideas Festival.

US-Lebanon Dialogue Program Launched. The Aspen Institute, in partnership with the Lebanon Renaissance Foundation, launched a new US-Lebanon Dialogue Program with a day-long conference examining US-Lebanon relations, the upcoming Lebanese elections, and the role of militant Islamist groups in Lebanon. "Selling Without Selling Out." After acquisition by multinational corporations, socially responsible companies often struggle to sustain the values and mission of the company. This year, the Trusteeship Institute, in partnership with the Aspen Institute and several other supporting organizations, gathered founders of such companies for a discussion of the challenges to sustaining a socially responsible business post-acquisition.
