The Foreclosure Crisis The impact of subprime lending are now being felt in communities and households across the country. Read CRA-NC's paper, "Empty Houses, Broken Dreams" documenting the impact of foreclosures in Durham. See the story in the New & Observer and an interview with Peter Skillern. CRA-NC's Peter Skillern facilitates a roundtable on solutions, group hosts a workshop for borrowers in crisis. EITC North Carolina passes a refundable earned income tax credit for workers. But more can be done. At least fifteen percent of those eligible for the EITC fail to claim it, according to reports. |

Manufactured Housing Policy Reform See a slideshow that explains how CRA-NC is rehabilitating the state's first non-profit owned land-lease park. Legislative Activity Both of the bills that CRA-NC worked on passed in the NCGA. The first, H1134, will provide funding and legal authority for counties to remove their abandoned mobile homes. The second, H1700, passed within the Appropriations Act. It will provide financial incentives that encourage park owners to sell to resident-owned and/or non-profit owned groups. |

H1134, the bill to help counties remove their abandoned mobile homes, was signed into law by Governor Easley last week. Counties can draw funds beginning in July 2009. The future will soon include fewer rotting homes, like this one in Scotland County, thanks to this bill. |
