This study is the first to use California's Academic Performance Index (API) to compare schools that have narrowed the gap between African-American and Latino students and their white and Asian American peers with schools that have not. It found significant differences in the ways in which the schools approached data, leadership and communication.

Vague, yet on the right track

The research is nicely written, although a bit vague at some parts with some skipped informaton or better yet not easily explained such as to why only three schools are part of the case studies. As well, the schools included in the study are not even in the same educatonal systems as in grade level wise. This makes it somewhat vague and hard in its credibilityissue. As I have mentoned the schools here, my question also comes to ask of the locations and the distance from one another.

The conversion of this gap is understandable as what closes it and what widens it. Another question has to do with the matter of this study and its desicion to research it, as to compare it with the rest of the schools in the country?

The findings area is interesting. Going to the Case Study: Belle Air Elementary School , of the studies learned, are the schools mostly private or public and what percentage is each one? Which of the schools are closing the gap much further than the rest: public or private? Going along to the second case study Roosevelt Middle School , what did the daily hour instructions in reading begin: after the 60% of students being on suspension or before?

At last, recommendations: why not have meetings for teachers in discussing their agendas and their improvements in their classes? Teacher conferences? Data analyss of the race/ethnicity of the students to see which are the ones that  need the most help? Special education for those students that need it more than others?

Overall, good job on the study. Though, more thorough job is needed on the research and analysis area.
