Layers of Zionism Ideology
Posted by: robgregory on Tue, 15 Jul 08 01:16:34 +0000
The research focuses on the disparate strands of Zionism in Israel, and the implications for Israeli-Palestinian relations. Contrary to common belief, Zionist ideology is quite complex. There are three important strands of Zionism that the article sheds light on: mainstream Zionism, neo-Zionism, and post-Zionism. Mainstream Zionism is the term applied to joining of interests between the Labor and Likud parties in Israel; this strand has been joined be neo-Zionism, a violent and radical right-wing ideology, and post-Zionism, which represents a more Leftist ideology based more closely on common interests that include Palestinian rights. These ideologies are contrasted to show the prevalent attitudes and beliefs taking form in Israel today. It's an excellent topic and a well-written piece.
