Recent population assessments indicate that Atlantic bluefin tuna populations in both the western and eastern Atlantic need increased protection to rebuild their depleted populations, yet current management measures are not working. According to this review and a numberof experts, spawning area closures could be an important option for restoring bluefin tuna populations.
