How will we continue to produce food and feed our population in 2040 while planning for population growth, transportation, homes, and commerce in the region? This is the question that frames this Food Systems Report for the Chicago metropolitan region. It builds upon two previously developed Illinois food strategies: one generated at the city level and the other by a statewide task force. It is an opportunity to reinforce food systems policy and planning for the Chicago metro area. It also offers a process for exploring food issues and links with other municipal and county governments throughout the sevencounty region.
