This policy brief identifies some of the major factors that need to be addressed to implement a gender approach to water resources and sanitation management and makes recommendations.
- The following are major factors that need to be addressed in order to implement a gender approach to water resources and sanitation management: 1) equitable access to water supply, 2) equitable access to land rights and water for productive use, 3) access to sanitation, 4) capacity development, 5) participation and equity in decision-making, 6) protection of the resource base: indigenous perspective, 7) resource mobilization, 8) private sector participation, pricing and the right to water, 9) water conflicts, hazards and emergencies.
- UN-Water recommends direct involvement of both women and men at all levels: national governments, regional/local governments, communities. and civil society organizations, donors, and international organizations
