This report discusses the Lean Project and how it improves patient care. Lean management creates a culture of continuous improvement at every level of the organization, where needed changes are identified, tested, and implemented. Respect for people and continuous improvement are core values. The methodology -- developed by Toyota in the 1990s -- focuses on maximizing value to the customer and minimizing waste in systems. It has been adapted to improve organizations in many fields, including health care. What is distinctive about Lean is that it is one system, integrated into hospital management, that can be applied across all lines of business to achieve a culture of continuous performance improvement.
