At a time of huge challenge for businesses worldwide, City of London turned to Corporate Citizenship for a study to deepen understanding of the business case for volunteering. City of London wanted to undertake a research study to analyse the business case for volunteering, and go beyond previous studies by assigning a financial value to the skills gained through employee volunteering. The Corporate Citizenship study, "Volunteering: The Business Case", focused on employee volunteering in the education sector. By drawing on case studies from 16 businesses across London, the learning and development of 546 volunteering employees in schools and colleges across the UK have been tracked. The final research report drew on qualitative and quantitative research and included an evaluation tool designed to enable other companies to gather hard data on competency development.
